Tying Sageo so that it's shorter for use

Category:
Description:

Here's how I tie the Sageo on a sword that the Sageo is too long without cutting any length off the Sageo. This shortens the Sageo significantly so that it doesn't touch the floor and stays out of the way when the Sageo if draped over the Saya in my Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu training but this could also be used for Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto ryu because of how they leave the Sageo drape and other styles that leave the Sageo hang when the sword is in use.

For me I recommend the single wrap for 7' Sageo, the double wrap for Sageo that are 7.5' or longer and double wrap with a knot can be used for Sageo that are longer than 7.5'. If the Sageo is still a hindrance after the double knot with a knot then you may want to consider permanently shortening the Sageo to make up the difference if you don't mind shortening it.

For those who may be interested the swords used in the video are my custom Ryan Sword Iaito and my customized Cas Hanwei Shobu Zukuri Raptor Katana.
