Ask your father or grandfather and they will tell you how quickly a generation passes away. When I was a young man, every gun person worth their salt knew and understood the history of John Brownings, M1911 .45 ACP pistol.
Keep in mind, we did not have an internet, we had to read books and magazines. As my words hit the paper here, it has been 35 years since the US Army decided to replace the M1911A1 pistol with the M9 Beretta.
For those too young to remember, there was much consternation and contention over that choice. Nonetheless, the die was cast and over a period of about five years, the US Armed Forces made the change over. It was mid-1989 before the unit where I was assigned made the switch.
We took a brand new Tisas Zigana PX9 Gen 3 “Duty” pistol and ran 1000 rounds through it. The testing was designed to be realistic and practical and to mimic the conditions that the end user could expect.
In addition to the pistol, we evaluated Wolf 9x19mm ammunition, carry gear from CrossBreed Holsters and the EDC CLP product. Professor Paul ran myriad shooting drills and discussed them throughout.
We test out the new VP12, a 12 gauge, AK-style, semi-automatic shotgun from SDS Imports. During our testing we will feed the VP12 a variety of 12 gauge ammunition from lightweight field loads to heavier recoiling 00 buckshot and slugs. We will also use both standard 2 and ¾ as well as 3 inch shells.
The VP12 is fed via 5 round magazines and the controls very closely mimic those of the AKM or Kalashnikov guns. This semi-auto gun has an adjustable gas system and an externally threaded barrel to allow the installation of a muzzle brake, should the shooter desire.
